The Children's Orchestra Society

Another thrilling music evening at The Children’s Orchestra Society (COS)concert, held at the Kaye (Danny) Playhouse at Hunter College, and conducted expressively, with charm and high energy by Michael Dadap. Michael was the recipient of the the Philippine Presidential Award, presented in the Malacanang Palace in recognition of his remarkable achievements as a virtuoso classical guitarist, composer, music teacher and promoter of the Philippine culture through his work, including concertizing throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia.

We had a wonderful time chatting with Michael and his wife, also Executive Director of the COS, Dr, Yeou-Cheung Ma, sister of Yo-Yo Ma.

Also thoroughly enjoyed, first his superb performance, and then our conversation with guest, Clarinet Soloist Jon Manasse. It is safe to say that Jon was the most animated soloist (in the nicest manner) I’ve ever seen. No wonder that he was the top prize winner in the 36th International competition for Clarinet in Munich and the youngest winner of the International Clarinet Society Competition. Also explains how he holds Associate Professor positions at both the Eastman School and Julliard. Just terrific!

Did not get to meet the other soloist, double bassist Scott Feldman, but his play was inspiring. Scotts background is impressive and can be found in the enclosed material. Also can’t claim to be an expert yet in opining on classical music….yet! However give me time! I did, however, find the program to be most enjoyable. Actually thrilled to have been invited. Will be back!
