I was recently asked to play the role of my music/performance hero, Frank Sinatra, in a Bob Hope Special for The Troops, just like the old-days.
My Bob Hope Special, Facebook et al
It was for the benefit of the @GreenwichChaplaincyServices which provides counseling and care to nursing home residents, who in many cases have no one to do so. The audience for the show was comprised of current and past members of the U.S. armed services, people from the community, family and friends, including three World War II Vets in their 90’s, and all added up to a packed house.
It was a great time and given a huge lift by the presence of today’s version of the Andrews Sisters”, called @TheAmericanBombshells. The three young women were highly professional, poised and polished. They sang all the patriotic songs you’d expect, along with the theme songs of each branch of the armed services. When the entire cast closed the show with “God Bless America,” there was not a dry eye to be found in the place.
I always enjoy performing a Sinatra tune, but adding in the repartee between Frank and an properly sardonic Bob Hope, played perfectly by @DaveCrimmins, and a chance to perform a duet with @stefanieKies’ sultry, Dorothy Lamour, made it a super time.
Many thanks to my biking buddy and good friend @garykrause for including me and being the force to make it happen. Also to @MikeGatliff, Director of Greenwich Chaplaincy Services for the wonderful care provided to those so in need. It was really great to get to know you! Same for @lizziedevlin, @roccoabbate, @justinemccurdy, @joerosello, @davidosler. Best to all!
