Christian Griffith to Run Across America to Highlight Child Abuse as HFC Sponsors Run2Heal
Abuse in the workplace, the mall and elsewhere, has certainly captured the headlines these past months, and this notice about Christian Griffith running across America for Hedge Funds Care/Help For Children www.HFC.org to raise awareness about the prevalence of child abuse in the U.S. and globally, takes on even greater meaning.
Christian is a self-acknowledged survivor of abuse, successful social-media marketing professional and accomplished “extreme” athlete who has taken on the challenge of literally running across America to highlight the issue, and encourage ever more survivors to not only speak out, but to also seek the kind of help that he believes was essential to saving him, the kind of help that HFC has provided to many thousands of victimized children over the past twenty years.
When I first met Christian, he had come to NYC to address a HFC Board Meeting and get to know the staff and key people in the HFC organization. His story about the cycle of abuse he endured, followed by how he had learned to over-come the pain to become the person he is now, was inspiring to us all. His run will be launched following the 20th Anniversary HFC gala on March 15th at the Museum of Natural History. I couldn’t think of a better place for it to be launched from considering the new “history” of revelation, reprisal and healing that has begun and will be even more emphatically highlighted by Christian’s run.
When I started HFC twenty years ago, my goal was to see if I could be the force to do something good, that my children could be proud of. I wanted to have party, just a single party, that would raise some amount of money, for cause of saving children from the trauma of abuse. It turned out to be a good party, and now twenty years later, with branches in twelve cities, five countries, three continents & Christian’s impending run…that goal, first articulated as preventing child abuse and providing treatment to those who have been victimized, is getting a boost.
